If you’re coming for the first time this week and want to let us know, we’ll be sure to look out for you!
If you’ve never been to a church before, you’ll probably find what we do friendly but a little different from your local soccer club. We’re confident you’ll find us welcoming and you’ll pick it up as you go.
If you’re already a follower of Jesus you’ll find us relaxed and relatively informal. We’re serious about serving Jesus, what we teach, and focused on the life-changing hope he offers.
So here are some things to help you know what to expect when you come along:
Parking. There’s plenty of parking of Tryon Road with easy access to our front door. Allow yourself a few minutes before the service to find a park close by.
Welcoming. When you step into church we’ll welcome you with a big smile and print you a name tag. Everyone at church wears a name tag (so you don’t need to worry about remembering everyone’s names!)
Kids. Our kids stay with us for the beginning of the church service as we sing – church is for them too! Then during the service the service leader will let you know when it’s time for the kids to go with their KidsChurch leaders. They will meet in the hall downstairs in age-appropriate groups, and re-join parents at the end of the service.
We sing. Singing together with a group can feel like a funny thing to do! We love to sing together to our great God and sing of and remind one another of the great things He has done. You are very welcome to just listen and reflect on the words of the song that will be on the screen.
We listen to the Bible. We are a Bible believing church and the Bible sits at the centre of what we do at church on Sundays. In the service we will hear it read out to us as well as hear someone speak about what that particular part of the Bible is teaching us.
We pray. Praying is talking to God and we love that God hears us when we talk to Him. Prayer on Sundays looks like someone praying up the front on behalf of us. In this time, sit and listen and if you agree with the words said, feel free to say ‘Amen!’ which means ‘I agree’.
Some weeks at church we participate in communion – eating bread and drinking grape juice – to remember Jesus and His death on the cross. If you come on a week of communion we encourage you to sit and listen and reflect, but there is no need or expectation to actively participate.
Note that some weeks we ask the church to read lines of a Psalm or a prayer altogether, where everything is explained to the church as the service goes by. You are welcome to join in or just listen, there is no pressure for participation in anything you are not comfortable with.
After our services we love to spend (informal) time in community with one another over morning tea at our morning service or dinner at our evening service. It’s a lovely time to get to know people and see more of what church is about.
